What level of education is required to be an orthodontist?
You need a lot of education just to be a regular dentist. Needless to say, even more is required to be an orthodontist.
For starters, the path involves much schooling. Candidates first need a bachelor’s degree to enter a dental school. Once they’re at such a school, they must undergo three years of learning to attain a DDS or DMD. Finally, they’ll receive three years of specialized orthodontic training after dental school.
Of course, good orthodontists will also keep their knowledge current. That means they complete a set number of continuing education hours yearly. Otherwise, they’ll lose their license to practice.
How many orthodontists are near Gates?
There are over 18,000 practicing orthodontists in the U.S. However, there are only about ten near Gates and the wider Rochester area. Luckily, Drs. Drabik and Peres are some of the best you’ll ever find.
You see, both of our orthodontists are trained and skilled. Dr. Drabik has studied at the Buffalo School of Dental Medicine and Boston University. Meanwhile, Dr. Peres got her dental doctorate from Penn’s School of Dental Medicine. At a later point, she learned orthodontics from the Eastman Institute for Oral Health. Both doctors are now members of several orthodontist groups.
What is the best way to find an orthodontist?
Aside from their title, you might not know what to look for in an orthodontics provider. Well, the matter isn’t that tricky. There are several things you should look out for.
Firstly, review an orthodontist’s education and experience. Those who have a lot of both are sure to deliver great results. In contrast, a prospect fresh out of school may not offer the quality you want.
Next, see if an orthodontist belongs to an orthodontics group. Such groups might include the American Association of Orthodontists. Another example is the American Academy of Orthodontists. If a doctor is linked to such an organization, they’ll know advanced orthodontic methods.
How much does it cost to get traditional braces without insurance?
In the U.S., the average price of metal braces is nearly $6,000. Still, how much your own cost will vary. The final number will depend on a wide range of factors.
For instance, consider the severity of your issue. Are your teeth only mildly misaligned or severely so? In the former case, the braces may not cost as much. If it’s the latter, though, your “metal mouth” may be expensive.
Your oral health is also relevant. If you have other dental issues, you may need to treat such things before you get braces. These extra services would then add to the overall expense.
